The Problem

Every year across the UK and Ireland, 4 to 5 million utility excavations are carried out by groundworkers, engineers and subcontractors — largely blind to what lies beneath.

Underground records are locked in company silos. Utility drawings are out of date. Local authority records sit on paper in filing cabinets. Nobody shares. Nobody learns. The same incidents happen again and again.

"Somewhere today a worker will be seriously injured striking a buried cable. Tomorrow they will fill that hole. Next week, next year — someone will dig there again with no knowledge of what happened."

The Solution

GroundEye is a crowd-sourced, verified photographic database of utility excavations. Every dig recorded today becomes a warning to the next worker who digs in that location — in five, ten or twenty years time.

Free for every worker. Forever. No subscriptions. No paywalls. No barriers.

Why It Matters

CAT scanners detect metal — but plastic pipes and ducts are invisible to them. The industry is replacing metal infrastructure with plastic faster than ever. The information gap is growing, not shrinking.

GroundEye fills that gap with verified photographic evidence of what was actually found, at what depth, in what condition — recorded by the workers who were there.
